Anyone else get extremely sick before finding out they had diabetes??

I was diagnosed when I was just 7 years old. Three days before they figured it out, my parents thought I just had the flu. Every time they gave me buttered toast or chicken noodle soup (trying to help me feel better) I’d throw it up instantly.

In just three days, I lost 40 pounds. At 7 years old.

When my parents finally took me to the hospital, I don’t even remember most of it. But I do remember someone yelling, “He needs to see a doctor now!”

Turns out… that was me.

My unconscious self somehow made it to the front desk and screamed, “I need to see a doctor now.”

They rushed me back, took my blood sugar, and it was 1200. They said I was 20 minutes from death.

I don’t remember much except wanting to go home. But that’s where the real diabetes ride began.

Has anyone else gone through something wild or scary before they were diagnosed? I’d really like to hear your story if you feel like sharing.
