Why?

This series is for others to see how quickly life can change for a diabetic — and how it affects you even on the good days. I promised to paint a picture of diabetes, so here it is: this is my life with diabetes.

I hope the people reading find grace, answers, and understanding. That’s why I started a forum and why I’m putting all my tech skills into building a community — not just for diabetics, but also for diabetic mamas, papas, girlfriends, and boyfriends. We’re all affected. We all carry unique outlooks and perspectives.

I encourage you to share — judgment-free, but keep it real. (Just a heads-up: Type 2 isn’t the same. So unless you want to get eaten alive here, maybe don’t argue about that one. Respect the space.)

If these posts reach just one person — if they feel seen, heard, understood, or even pick up a trick that helps them avoid a scary moment — then I’ve done my job. I see you out there.

The Journey

“Life with diabetes” — at first glance, it sounds like a constant struggle for balance. But I’ll be breaking it down piece by piece: the coping that turns into learning, the learning that turns into growth, and the growth that turns into strength.

This is a complicated, punishing, and beautiful life. A life of resilience. A life that teaches you things only hardship can.

Life with diabetes is an enlightened life.

It changes the way you see yourself every day. Some days it feels like nothing works, like you’re drowning in routines and numbers. But look deeper: you’re carrying burdens with ease, you’re fighting to stay alive, and you almost never fear death. That kind of strength sharpens into awareness.

And you begin to realize — people with fully functioning pancreases are missing a whole dimension of life we were forced to understand. This disease is incurable. It never ends. So what are we gonna do? Just suffer?

No.
We’re going to live.
We’re going to do what everyone else does: show up and live every day the best we can.
And we’re not going to take shit from anyone who doesn’t get it.

The hardest part of this story for me will be talking about my diagnosis. That week changed my life forever. I’ll take extra time with it — extra care — because right now, I can only describe it in one word: traumatic.

The Connection

This is for the newly diagnosed. For the curious friends and family. For the diabetics who are already in the thick of it.

If that’s you — I hope you’ll reach out. But if not, I hope you feel a little more understood by the time you finish reading.

You’re not alone. We’re out here — other diabetics who see you, who know how hard you’re trying. We’re here for you in a way that only someone who’s walked this road can be. Our paths may be different, but we’re climbing the same mountain — and we’ll help push you to the top however we can.

The Structure

This story will be told in five stages, one post at a time:

Stage 1: Life Before Type 1 (Ages 0–7)
Stage 2: The Diagnosis (Age 7 — the week that forever changed my life)
Stage 3: Elementary to Middle School with Diabetes
Stage 4: High School through College & Young Adulthood (Ages 14–21)
Stage 5: Adulthood Today (Ages 22–28 — My Life with Diabetes Now)

New entries in this series will be posted every Wednesday
Each one will tell a different part of my story — raw, real, and honest.
